About us

A Repair Shop That Explains Its Work

ExpertFlow HVAC Repair Service is based in Los Altos and works across the nearby Peninsula and South Bay. Our approach is simple to describe and harder to do well: find the actual cause, explain it in plain words, and give you a choice. Local homes are a mix of mid-century houses with original ductwork, remodels where the air path was rerouted more than once, and newer builds running variable-speed heat pumps. Each of those fails in its own way, so a visit starts with readings on airflow, temperatures and electrical parts rather than a guess. The Santa Clara Valley keeps summers dry and winters mild and damp, with hotter afternoons farther inland, which shapes how we size new equipment and what we check during tune-ups. When a repair still makes sense, we say so. When a system is near the end of its useful life, we lay out the replacement path, including heat pump options, so you can plan instead of react.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Findings you can see

Meter readings, photos of worn parts and a short written summary come with every diagnostic visit, so you are never asked to approve work on faith.

  2. Options, not ultimatums

When a repair and a replacement are both reasonable, we lay out what each one involves and let you choose the timing that fits your home and budget.

  3. Straight talk on rules and incentives

We follow Bay Area Air District appliance rules closely and confirm current BayREN or clean energy provider incentives before mentioning them in a quote.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I have to replace my gas furnace because of the new Air District rules?

No. Bay Area Air District appliance rules do not require replacing working equipment. They apply when an existing furnace fails or is replaced, and gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard, which in practice points toward heat pumps after that date.

Can I still claim the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

The federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for installations after that date. Local programs through BayREN or your clean energy provider may still offer something, and we confirm the current offer first.

What should I check before booking a repair visit?

Look at the thermostat settings and batteries, make sure the breaker for the outdoor unit and furnace is on, and check whether the air filter is clogged. If those are fine and the problem continues, a diagnostic visit is the next step.

Is a ductless mini-split a good fit for an older Los Altos house?

Often, yes. Homes without ducts, or with additions the original system never reached, can be good candidates. We look at room layout, wall space for the indoor heads and where the outdoor unit can sit before recommending one.

How do I know if my ducts need attention?

Rooms that never reach the set temperature, dust that returns quickly after cleaning, or a musty smell when the fan runs can point to leaking, dirty or disconnected ducts. We inspect and measure before suggesting cleaning or sealing.

Do you service both heating and cooling equipment?

Yes. We work on gas furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems, along with the ducts, thermostats and air quality equipment connected to them.

How often should my system be maintained?

A yearly check is a sensible baseline for most homes. Many owners schedule heating service in the fall and cooling service in late spring, or one combined visit for a heat pump that handles both.
